Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (“Green Card Lottery”) Registration is Now Open

The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program is a Congressionally-mandated program that provides immigrant visas (“Green Cards”) to immigrants with historical low rates of immigration to the United States. For the Fiscal Year 2019, 50,000 Diversity Visas (DV) will be available. The US Department of State is now accepting applications for DV-2019, which will be open from noon (Eastern Time) October 3, 2017 until noon (Eastern Time) on November 7, 2017. Applications are free and made online only at www.dvlottery.state.gov. For DV-2019, natives of the following countries are not eligible to apply (due to high rates of immigration): Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (mainland-born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam. Persons born in Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, and Taiwan are eligible. Eligibility requirements includes possession of a high school education (or its equivalent) or two years of qualifying work experience. If you have any questions regarding the DV Lottery program or application, please contact Katia at katia@teirsteinlaw.com.
