Dutch Garden Designers Bring Their Craft to Nevada: Marcel and Jaimy Hallmans' E-2 Success Story

Marcel Hallmans and his son Jaimy, two Dutch garden designers, were recently approved for E-2 treaty investor visas so they could bring their craft to the United States. Teirstein Law PLLC prepared their petition for the U.S. Consulate General in Amsterdam, proving that a creative business is also a serious, substantial one for the E-2 investor visa.

Rooted in craft

Jaimy founded Masta Landscaping & Construction in 2007, a design-build practice known for natural swimming ponds, biodiverse gardens and climate-resilient outdoor spaces. Marcel, a former biology teacher and beekeeper of more than fifty years, created the bee farm and gardens at Imkerij Immenhof, which have earned press coverage and sustainability recognition in the Netherlands.

Together they founded Rock Solid Roots, LLC to bring that ecological design approach to the desert landscapes of Southern Nevada.

E-2 Investor Visas

The E-2 treaty investor visa fits that plan. It also poses a particular challenge for creative businesses: the value sits in the work and the people, while the officer is trained to look at capital, payroll and projections. Our job was to translate one into the other without losing what makes the business special.
